How to dictate WhatsApp messages on Android and get clean text

On Android you can dictate into WhatsApp (and any other app) with a dictation bubble: tap the message field, tap the bubble that appears above the keyboard, speak, and the message is written already cleaned up — no "uhm", punctuation in place, ready to send. It replaces the keyboard's microphone, which types every word exactly as spoken.

Keyboard microphone vs. dictation bubble

Gboard's microphone (and the microphones of most keyboards) transcribes in real time and stops there: you get the words, then you fix them. A dictation bubble like Loquil's sits above the keyboard, records while you speak and passes the audio through an AI cleanup before writing: fillers and false starts disappear, punctuation and capital letters are added, and you can ask for a rewrite ("more formal") or a summary.

Setting it up

1. Install Loquil for Android from Google Play (Android 8 or later) and sign in.
2. Turn on the dictation bubble: Android asks for the accessibility permission, which is the only way an app can write into other apps' text fields.
3. Open WhatsApp, tap a chat's message field: the bubble appears above the keyboard.
4. Tap, speak, tap again: the text is written in the field. Send as usual.

Privacy of the accessibility permission

Loquil uses the accessibility service only to write the dictated text where you are typing.
