Frequently asked questions about Loquil

Everything about AI dictation with Loquil: how it works, platforms, languages, plans, privacy.

What is Loquil?
Loquil is an AI dictation app for Windows, Linux and Android. You hold a hotkey (or tap a bubble on Android), speak, and release: your voice is transcribed, cleaned up by an AI model — fillers removed, punctuation and formatting fixed — and pasted straight into the text field you were writing in. It works inside any program: Word, Outlook, Gmail, WhatsApp, Excel, business software.
How is Loquil different from Windows voice typing (Win+H) or Google voice typing?
Built-in voice typing transcribes what you say word for word, including "uhm", repetitions and missing punctuation. Loquil transcribes and then writes: an AI pass removes fillers and false starts, adds punctuation, fixes formatting, and can rewrite, summarize or translate on request. The result reads like something you typed carefully, not like a raw transcript.
Which programs does it work in?
In any text field. Loquil is not a separate window you write in and copy from: it pastes the finished text where your cursor is. Word, Outlook, Gmail in the browser, WhatsApp Web, Excel, Slack, Teams, CRMs and business software — if you can type there, you can dictate there. On Android the dictation bubble appears above the keyboard in any app.
Which platforms is Loquil available on?
Windows 10/11 and Linux (desktop app with a global hotkey) and Android 8 or later (dictation bubble, on Google Play). An iOS version is in development. One account and one word quota work across all your devices.
Which languages does it support?
More than 35 dictation languages, and you can dictate in one language and have the text written in another (for example speak Italian, get an English email). The app interface is available in English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Hindi.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes. Transcription and AI cleanup happen in the cloud, so a normal connection is enough; audio is processed in a few seconds. There is nothing to install besides the app: no models to download, no API keys to create.
What happens to my audio and my texts?
While you dictate, the audio is sent to the Loquil service and forwarded to the transcription provider; it stays in memory for the time of the request and is not saved on our servers. We keep usage counters (words, seconds) to enforce your plan, not the content. Details in the privacy policy.
Can I change the hotkey?
Yes, from the settings. Shift+Win is the default on Windows, but you can choose another combination (Ctrl+Alt+D, F8, F9…) or a single key. On Android there is no hotkey: you tap the bubble that appears above the keyboard.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan includes 1,000 words a week and the counter resets every week; no credit card is required. If you need more, the Smart plan (6 €/month) raises the limit to 50,000 words a month and Pro (10 €/month) to 150,000. All AI features are included in every plan: the difference is only the volume.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, at any time from your account page. The plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for; nothing else is charged.
What is the personal dictionary?
A list of names, terms and abbreviations that the AI must write exactly as you want (a client's surname, a product name, an acronym). It is saved in your account and synced to every device you use Loquil on. It is included in the paid plans.
Why does the Android app ask for the accessibility permission?
The dictation bubble appears above the keyboard when you tap a text field and writes the dictated text right there: on Android the accessibility service is the only way to do that in every app. Loquil uses it for nothing else — it does not read your screen for other purposes and shares nothing with third parties.
Can I use Loquil for work, in a team or a company?
Yes. The individual plans work for professionals out of the box; for teams and companies there is a Professional plan with dedicated volumes, company billing and priority support — write to [email protected].
