Loquil vs Dragon: modern AI dictation vs the classic professional suite

Dragon (Nuance, now part of Microsoft) is the long-standing professional dictation software for Windows: very accurate after training, offline, with deep voice commands and specialized vocabularies. Loquil is a lighter, cloud-based AI dictation app: nothing to train, a hotkey in any app, and an AI cleanup that turns speech into finished text, plus rewrite, summary and translation into 35+ languages, at a flat monthly price with a free plan. They serve different needs more than they compete.

Which one to choose

Choose Dragon if you need offline processing, voice control of the computer, or certified medical/legal vocabularies and you dictate for hours a day. Choose Loquil if you want finished text in any app on Windows and Android without training or a big licence, especially in several languages. Many former Dragon users find that AI cleanup removes most of the editing that used to justify the training effort.

Questions

Is Loquil as accurate as Dragon?
Transcription accuracy is high in major languages without training; the AI cleanup then fixes punctuation and structure. Dragon can be more accurate on very specialized vocabulary after training.
Can Loquil control Windows by voice?
No: Loquil writes text; it is not a voice-command tool.
Is Loquil suitable for medical or legal dictation?
For drafting notes and letters yes, with your terms in the personal dictionary; it is not a certified clinical documentation system.
